On a trip to the Welsh countryside at the weekend with my Nikon D5000, I tested out a couple of new bits of kit.
1 - Velbon tripod - every photography book gives the heavy sell for a decent tripod to get your photos looking ‘tack sharp’ and there is a reason for it. If you don’t own a tripod, get one now! I tested it out on a few waterfall shots below, opening the shutter to around 1-1.5 seconds and it worked fantastically.
2 - Circular polarising filter - this is a great bit of kit which reduces reflection from water or glass, and also to adjust colour saturation when shooting landscapes. Its best application when its 90 degrees to the light source , but I was shooting late morning so I probably didn’t maximise its effect. Take a look at some of the shots below of the Wye river and the hills around Hay on Wye…
Interesting presentation from the people at Espresso on the state of social media in 2010. Some pretty impressive numbers around the penetration of what we deem as ‘social’, with some great sound-bytes in there.
The line I particularly like is ‘Now Social Media is Media‘…
Using the wayback machine internet archive, below is a selection of pioneering web 2.0 sites, and what they looked like at launch. Budding web entrepreneurs can take heart here, as the designs are a far cry from what we recognise now. But how they have grown….
